Senior Corporate Controller (REIT)

Job Description:
This position is responsible for the consolidated accounting and reporting functions of a public REIT.  The Controller will have responsibility in finance, treasury and accounting functions, and will be instrumental in establishing the related support functions. He/she will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, and leadership and management of the accounting team.  The Controller will ensure that the team meets its deliverables on a timely basis to create a reliable, respected, and value added function within the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement new General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Fixed Asset systems
  • Design, document and implement policies and procedures with respect to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable
  • Fixed Assets and Month-end Close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
  • Review monthly and quarterly financial reporting prepared by the accounting team 
  • Prepare monthly internal financial reports for presentation to senior management
  • Prepare quarterly financial statements, footnotes and MD&A disclosures for the Company’s SEC filings
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statement certifications to lenders and other agencies 
  • Act as liaison with external auditors and lenders regarding financial reporting, reconciliations and loan covenant compliance matters
  • Act as liaison with FP&A as it relates to budgets, forecasts and other related analyses
  • Make sound recommendations to enhance efficiency of accounting and reporting functions—as well as supporting computer systems, and to ensure quality of data

Requirements:

  •  At least 10 years of relevant accounting and financial reporting experience in the real estate sector, REIT experience preferred
  • Experience in GAAP, SEC reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in real estate
  • Superior analytical, quantitative and communication (both oral and written) skills
  • Experience in establishing accounting and reporting functions, as well as documenting policies and procedures
  • “Big Four” accounting firm experience a plus
  • A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, as well as a CPA license
